I like challenging my expectations of what makes a successful composition. The shape of multiple-paneled works can be interesting because the shape starts to play a part in composition itself. I also enjoy the idea that multi-panel shapes remind me of past religious triptychs or alter paintings. But more important, multiple panels helps me develop a more interesting visual experience. I can choose to end a work or continue it by adding another panel to it.
